Arsenal ‘can take on anybody’ in the Champions League, insists former manager

first_imgFormer Arsenal manager George Graham believes the Gunners ‘can take on anybody’ in the Champions League if they maintain the form which saw them beat Olympiakos to qualify for the last 16 on Wednesday.Following a disappointing start to their European campaign, the Gunners travelled to Greece knowing they had to win by two clear goals to progress from the group stages. And the north London side did what they needed to do, and in emphatic fashion, as Olivier Giroud’s hat-trick ensured Arsenal finished runners-up in Group F to join Bayern Munich in going through to the knockout stages. It was a brilliant performance from the visitors, who crucially maintained their composure at the back while stunning Olympiakos on the attack. And, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, former boss Graham believes the performance could inspire the side to march all the way to the final this year.“It was a wonderful team performance, both offensively and defensively, and I haven’t said that many times about Arsenal this season,” he said.“It was a very difficult game but they were fantastic and if Arsenal can reproduce that form they can take on anybody.“Arsene Wenger’s optimism is fantastic really, he never loses the confidence that the team are going to improve.“If they keep on improve like last night, then why not? There’s a great chance to go on a great run right through to the final.”last_img read more
