SA crafts headed for India trade fair

first_img8 November 2012 Thirty-three South African arts and crafts entrepreneurs will showcase their products to the international market at the 32nd India International Trade Fair in New Delhi from 14 to 27 November. The group’s participation in the prestigious two-week international exhibition has been made possible through the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI’s) export marketing and investment assistance scheme. Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Elizabeth Thabethe will accompany the entrepreneurs to India, attending the first week of the exhibition before proceeding to Turkey on an outward selling mission. “South Africa first participated in the India International Trade Fair in 2008, and the good reception that the South African products received encouraged us to send more businesspeople to display their products and market them internationally,” Thabethe said in a statement on Monday. “The crafters we are taking to the fair this year were first identified at the South African Handmade Collection, a unique and proudly South African craft brand that promotes South African handmade products nationally and internationally, and also aims at promoting emerging craft enterprises, especially those residing in rural areas.” The India International Trade Fair is one of the world’s largest integrated trade fairs in terms of exhibitor and visitor participation targeting both trade visitors and the general public. More than 7 000 exhibitors from all over the world will be participating in the fair, showcasing products ranging from leather, textiles and handicrafts to jewellery, furniture and furnishings. South Africa’s west coast explodes in colour

first_img22 August 2014It’s “flower safari” time as South Africa’s West Coast National Park prepares for its annual influx of visitors, come to see the spectacular spring flower displays that take place every August and September.“During this time, visitors flock in their numbers to the Postberg section of the park that serves as a highlight to their visit – especially as this section of the park is only open to the public during these two months of the year,” West Coast National Park’s Tarcia Hendricks said in a statement this week. The park is one-and-a-half hours drive from Cape Town. The park has devised three different “self-drive flower tours”. Route maps for these are available at the park’s entrance.Flower displays can be seen throughout the entire park, not just the Postberg section. “Fields of brightly coloured flowers create the most spectacular views for a stroll,” Hendricks said. “Spectacular flowers can also be seen at the Seeberg lookout point.”Flower reportNamaqua National Park, in the Northern Cape about 500 kilometres from Cape Town, said the later-than-usual rains in the area meant that the flower display would begin a little later than normal. However, excellent and regular rainfall since June would also probably mean the season would last longer than usual. In a “flower report” issued by by the park last week, visitors were told of spectacular flowers over large areas of the park: “Skilpad is covered in Namaqua daisy carpets. Pietsnot (Grielum homifusum) is also now very prominent, with Varkiesknol (Conicosia) starting to bloom as well. The Cattails are at their best right now.“The areas between Skilpad and Soebatsfontein and towards Wildeperdehoek pass have large purple ‘vygie’ (mesembryanthemums) carpets, as well as very good white daisy patches. The coastal flowers are very good with the usual variety of vygies and daisies.”The West Coast Park offers these tips to help you make the most of the flower season:Head to the park early in the morning – especially if you’re visiting on a weekend.Make use of both the R27 and Langebaan gates but be prepared for a long queue on weekends and public holidays. The park has put extra measures in place to try and alleviate as much congestion at the gates as possible.Geelbek Restaurant is the place in the park where food and drinks are sold. Only bookings for tables larger than 10 are accepted during flower season.Bring your mountain bike and cycle up to Mooimaak – the views from there rival that of Postberg. No vehicles are permitted.Follow the park on Twitter @WestCoastNP or the SANParks West Coast National Park Facebook page. Draft lottery may decide Zion Williamson’s first NBA stop

first_imgLATEST STORIES New York, Cleveland and Phoenix share the best odds: They’ve all got a 14 percent chance of winning under a new format that was designed in 2017 and put into play this year to discourage teams from all-out tanking. Williamson, the consensus college basketball player of the year this past season, is expected to be in the audience when the lottery results are announced.“Whatever NBA team I land on, that’s where I want to be,” Williamson, the now-former Duke star who is turning pro after one season with the Blue Devils, said last month. “Whoever drafts me, that’s where I want to be.”FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesSPORTSSingapore latest to raise issue on SEA Games food, logisticsIt is very much a lottery; the machine is exactly like the one used in many state lotteries and is manufactured by Smartplay International, which works with clients all over the world for various drawings. Smartplay even certifies the 14 pingpong balls that will be used to churn out the four-number combination will net some team the No. 1 pick. The Knicks, Cavaliers and Suns will all be assigned 140 of the possible 1,001 four-number combinations. Chicago gets 125, giving the Bulls the fourth-best shot. Charlotte, Miami and Sacramento will be assigned 10 of those combinations, giving them the longest odds of winning the No. 1 pick. The Kings won’t be rooting to win; their pick goes to Boston, unless it’s the first pick, and then it goes to Philadelphia. The actual drawing takes place in a secure room about an hour beforehand, witnessed by a representative from each of the 14 lottery clubs, NBA officials and some members of the media. None of them can leave or communicate with the outside world in any way until after the results are announced on television.“I’m not one to waste a lot of time on things I can’t control — which is essentially anything that happens at my house, and the lottery,” Atlanta general manager Travis Schlenk said. The Hawks could be big winners Tuesday. If Dallas doesn’t get one of the top four draft picks, the Mavericks’ pick — which would be No. 9 if they don’t move up — goes to Atlanta, which has its own lottery pick as well and a 10.5% chance of winning the No. 1 selection. The Knicks are hoping history repeats: The first draft lottery was 1985, the Knicks won it and used that No. 1 pick to draft Patrick Ewing — who will represent New York on stage Tuesday night.“We’re proud to have one of the all-time Knicks greats sit on the dais,” Knicks president Steve Mills said.ADVERTISEMENT It’ll be a Georgetown center reunion — the Heat are sending Alonzo Mourning as their onstage representative. The conference finals take center stage this week: Portland at Golden State in Game 1 in the West, which follows the draft lottery; Toronto at Milwaukee in Game 1 in the East, which begins on Wednesday. But in Chicago, it’ll be all about the future — the G League Elite Camp started Sunday and concludes Tuesday, then the draft lottery, and then the NBA draft combine starts Thursday.Williamson, his Duke teammates R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish, Murray State star guard Ja Morant and about 100 other draft-eligible players will be in Chicago throughout the week, and many will likely find their way to the lottery. Not all will play or work out at the combine, but most are expected to at least take time to meet with some teams and submit to some basic medical exams.“I think it’s deeper than people say,” Heat president Pat Riley said when asked to evaluate the draft. “I’m not going to name names, but I’ve seen 30 players that are very good players.”Who goes where, that won’t be known until June 20.But the order will be set Tuesday — and Williamson will finally have a very good idea of where he’s heading.Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next DA eyes importing ‘galunggong’ anewcenter_img PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss MOST READ Catholic schools seek legislated pay hike, too Two-day strike in Bicol fails to cripple transport Ethel Booba twits Mocha over 2 toilets in one cubicle at SEA Games venue FILE – In this March 31, 2019, file photo, Duke forward Zion Williamson speaks with the news media in the locker room after an NCAA men’s East Regional final college basketball game against Michigan State in Washington. Iniesta suffered to adapt to Japan

first_imgThe former Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta said he and his family had a hard time adapting to Japanese life. One of Barcelona’s biggest stars, Andres Iniesta, decided to leave the Spanish La Liga giants to join Japanese side, Vissel Kobe. For many it was a shocking move, to others it was expected as the player is now aging but he doesn’t want to stop playing football. And now the 34-year-old explains how difficult was to adapt to the Japanese lifestyle.“I have to confess that the adaption process has not been easy during my first six months in Japan, in sporting and in family terms,” he was quoted by ESPN.“We arrived here after the World Cup, so we had hardly any time to organize ourselves.”“We have spent our time getting used to the differences between the two cultures,” he added.“Japanese customs are radically different to ours [in Spain] but, finally, we feel adapted. Now it’s time to enjoy being here.”Gerard Pique, Neymar, BarcelonaLa Liga Betting: Match-day 4 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Despite it being very early into La Liga season, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had unprecedented starts to their campaigns. I have always been very competitive. I have never liked losing. Now, I have to learn from them and see it from another point of view. They’re competitive, but they extract other conclusions from defeats,” he explained.“But my time here has been infinitely more relaxed than my spell at Barca. I was completely empty [in Spain]. I had nothing left. The pressure at a club like Barca is huge. Coming to Kobe has released me from that tension.”90 años de fútbol, de pasión y de ilusiones. Construction begins on 14mile stretch of border upgrades

first_img SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Construction upgrades to a 14-mile stretch of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico Border began today, Customs and Border Protection confirmed. The project area begins roughly one half-mile from the Pacific Ocean and extends eastward to the base of Otay Mountain.“One of Border Patrol’s top priority projects,” according to CBP, it is the third to begin this year as part of the Trump administration’s proposed “border wall.” Other projects are underway in Calexico and New Mexico, where two-mile and 20-mile stretches of border, respectively, are being upgraded.“Under this president’s leadership, we have a renewed commitment to secure our border,” said Ronald Vitiello, CBP acting deputy commissioner.“The new primary wall-project represents an important milestone in our work to secure the international border.” In San Diego, construction crews will install 18- to 30-foot bollards topped with a steel anti-climbing plate. Bollards are sturdy poles too closely set for people to pass through. The poles will replace eight- to 10-foot tall scraps of corrugated Vietnam War-era metal installed at the border during the 1990s to prevent pedestrian and vehicles crossings. The scraps needed to be replaced with a “higher performing design,” according to CBP.Texas-based consturction firm SLSCO was awarded a $147 million contract for the project. “The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area,” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said.
