Kensington, St Catherine CC in JCA 50-over semis

first_imgDiscarded Jamaica Scorpions representatives, fast bowler Jason Dawes and batsman Horace Miller, both played lead roles in helping Kensington Cricket Club to the semi-finals of the Jamaica Cricket Association 50-over Tournament yesterday.Dawes, who played the opening match of the Scorpions’ four-day campaign picked up four for 37 while Miller slammed 45 as their team defeated Westmoreland by two wickets at Paradise Oval.The east Kingston club was also joined in the semi-finals by title-holders St Catherine CC, who clobbered Lucas by 10 wickets at Chedwin Park.At Paradise, Westmoreland posted a modest 182 off 30.4 overs with the big-hitting Kenar Lewis getting 56 and Nick Blackwood, 40. Leg-spinner Donovan Nelson was also among the wickets with three for 22.Miller then piloted his team home to 183 for eight off 28 overs with assistance coming from leg-spin all-rounder Akeem Dewar, 40.At Chedwin Park, Lucas won the toss and took first strike, but could only muster 83 off 27.3 overs courtesy of left-arm spinner Stephan Casey, who claimed four for 12.St Catherine, in response, raced to 87 without loss off 7.1 overs with Oraine Williams scoring 49 and Shacoya Thomas, 31.The other two quarter-finals will be played today. At Up Park Camp, the Jamaica Defence Force will entertain Melbourne CC, while Kingston CC and St Thomas are set to do battle at Kensington Park.- J.L.last_img
